The Virtues of Memorizing the Holy Quran
- Being Among the People of Allah: Those who memorize or recite the Book of Allah are considered among Allah’s chosen ones in this world and the Hereafter. Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Indeed, Allah has His own people among mankind.” They said: “O Messenger of Allah, who are they?” He said: “The people of the Quran are the people of Allah and His chosen ones.”
- The Quran Elevates Its Bearer: Memorizing the Quran elevates the person to the status of noble angels. Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The one who recites the Quran and has memorized it will be with the noble, righteous scribes; and the one who recites it and finds it difficult will have a double reward.”
- High Status in This World: Memorizing the Quran grants the individual a high status in this world and earns them respect and honor among people. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “Indeed, Allah raises some people by this Book and lowers others.” Abu Musa Al-Ash’ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Part of showing glory to Allah is to honor the elderly Muslim, the bearer of the Quran who neither goes to extremes in it nor neglects it, and to honor the just ruler.”
- Priority in Leading Prayer: The Prophet (peace be upon him) instructed his companions to give priority in leading prayer to the one who has memorized the most of the Quran. He said: “The one who is most proficient in the recitation of the Book of Allah should lead the people in prayer.”
- Intercession of the Quran on the Day of Judgment: The Quran will intercede for its companions on the Day of Judgment. Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Recite the Quran, for it will come as an intercessor for its reciters on the Day of Resurrection.”
- Ascending in the Levels of Paradise: The one who memorizes the Quran will ascend in the levels of Paradise according to their memorization. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “It will be said to the companion of the Quran: ‘Recite and ascend, and recite as you used to recite in the world, for your level in Paradise is at the last verse you recite.’”
- Honoring the Parents of the Quran Memorizer: Allah honors the parents of the one who memorizes the Quran. Sahl bin Mu’adh Al-Juhani reported from his father (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever recites the Quran and acts upon it, his parents will be adorned with a crown on the Day of Resurrection whose light is better than the light of the sun in this worldly abode. What do you think of the person who acts upon this?”
